Questions and answers
The most important things about RavenSays in short answers.
Do I have to sign in?
No. You can play the case of the week without an account. You need an account for last week's case, to subscribe, and if your progress should stay on a second device or after clearing your browser.
What does the game cost?
The case of the week is free, no account needed. Last week's case is free with a free account. A subscription opens the rest of the archive and every new case. The price and how to cancel are on the Subscription page.
How does the raven work?
You ask a question and the raven answers Yes, No, Partly or Doesn't matter. If your question is not a yes or no question, it says so. It says nothing more, and that is deliberate.
Is the raven an AI?
Yes. A language model picks the answer word, and our software assembles the sentence around it. In the game, a notice about this is always shown.
Can the raven give away the solution?
Not by accident and not when asked. It writes no free text and knows only the fixed list of words for its answer. Anyone who tries to coax the solution out of it is turned away.
How do I state the solution?
Write it in your own words into the question field. The raven checks whether all essential points are named. If one is missing, it says you are close.
What do I do when I am stuck?
There are three hints per case, unlocking after five, ten and fifteen questions. You can also give up and look at the solution, and the case then counts as revealed.
How many cases are there?
The list under Cases shows all of them, each with its release date. On average a new one is added every day. The case of the week stays up front and changes every Monday.
Can I play a case again?
Yes. Under Cases and in your account you can reset one case or all of them. Your account and a running subscription are left untouched.
Why does the raven sometimes take a break?
To keep the site affordable there is a daily upper limit on questions. It is set high. Anyone who reaches it carries on the next day.
What happens to my data?
We store your progress and, if you secure an account, your email address. We also keep your questions to the raven in a separate copy without an account ID, for twelve months at most, to improve the game and the language models behind it. Everything else is in the privacy policy.

What age is RavenSays for?
18 and over. The cases are dark, they involve crime, accidents and death, and only adults take out a subscription.
